About the Flock
I have been drawing these little birds since I was 12 or 13 – or at least that’s the earliest I can find examples of them – scribbled in the margins of my junior high notebooks. As time went on, they started to spread onto the rest of the page… If one were curious, one could potentially gauge my interest in a subject by the number of birds. For instance, my freshman Calculus notes are almost entirely birds. And yes, I would have failed that class if the professor hadn’t graded on a curve. Whew.
So for most of their existence, this is all they have been – random scribbles on scraps of paper and napkins, showing up on birthday cards, recipe clippings, whiteboards, and yes, notes in corporate meetings (sorry, boss). It wasn’t until December 2009 they started tugging on my sleeve and asked if they could try and say something. I didn’t see any harm in it, but I guess time will tell. I never know what they’re going to say or do, I just wait for them to tell me and dutifully commit it to paper. The Flock is old-school. They likely have an agenda (they strike me as a tad shifty), but have not shared it with me. So thanks for reading about and following The Flock.
